Through a series of small changes, you can live a completely different life than you have been living.
I did it and am still doing it. Honestly, I won’t ever stop. I have become a die-hard believer that you can modify or completely change a habit, situation or feeling right now, at this very moment and make it sustainable.
When quarantine first started, I jumped on the “drink lots of wine” boat. Feeling confident that my alcohol consumption is generally under control and always has been, I drank as much as I desired every evening.
After a while though, it was too much. I was foggy-brained more of the time than I wanted to admit, and I was gaining weight. I love the warm hug of a glass of wine as much as anyone, but I needed to make a shift. So I began to implement some small changes.
For starters, I decided I wasn’t allowed to have any alcohol until I had eight or more glasses of water. If I didn’t have a minimum of 64 ounces of water, no vino and I stuck to that.
What was super-great about that small change is it got me drinking more water. (Side note: I now drink 10-14 glasses of water per day).
What I noticed was I started to pour later in the evening, because I needed more time to get my water “requirement” in.
In fact, because I was drinking later in the evening, it actually became too late. So I added another small change. I decided that I could not pour a glass of wine after 9:15. Specific? Maybe. Effective? Totally.
As a result, what happens now is that sometimes I go to sleep without a drop of wine touching my lips.
Really good.
I also decided on an amount of wine that I allow myself to have each evening. I measure…yes, I use a measuring cup when I pour my wine. It’s not sexy, but it is useful.
At the same time, I have given myself exceptions like, when I’m being social, on Zoom or in person and obviously not crazy- stupid, over the top.
This is one of many examples I am happy to share from my own experience, and there are multiple others from my clients.
A #OneSmallChange can transform your life. Jennifer Morris experienced this in our work together:
“I can honestly say it was immediate that things were taking place and happening. The steps were easy for me to do and eye-opening. I feel it also was due to being completely honest and ready to work it! These steps woke me up to who I am introducing exercises each day to become routine and feeling more accomplished and things I haven’t been in touch with for a long time. I added new things to a daily routine I didn’t think I’d ever do in my life. Copilot coaching launched me back to myself. Things I lost were found by her education, professionalism, incredible caring, productive input, and some fun!”
You CAN make small, impactful changes in your life whether it’s on your own or with support from me or someone you trust. Go ahead. It’s doable no matter what is going on at the moment.
